Believe in the Fight: Old Journals →
I came across some old journals and these are probably my favorite entries (fyi: I have never been / never will be a good speller):
Oct. 13 1995
It friday the 13! I don’t think it’s bad luck though. First of all because NO HOMEWORK (homework scrolls down the side of the page). and second because the boy I like used my pencil! I know it sounds upsurd, but I think it’s “retro”!
Unknown date (est: mid high school years)
1) Dye my hair orange / red
2) Buy a hampster
3) Work at independent record store
4) cover my walls in posters
5) stay online at all times (24 hrs a day) - when away I’ll have an away message
6) Study at a coffee house
7) Stay out until all hours of the night (features a drawing of an alarm clock that reads 4:00 am)
No seriously. I think I pretty much did all of that, at least if you replace orange with blue and hampster [sic] with rat. Also, NO HOMEWORK.
It is really nice to be able to sit around and look through a lot of my old journals and photos and make peace with all these really contradictory past selves. Especially the ones who were mean or had bad politics, but it is also hard to see how sad I was, since it starts at such a young age. Together, it can seem not to make any sense to me, but then I remember that it doesn’t have to, and that feels really nice to admit to myself.
